What is a Cub Pack?
A Cub Pack is the section within the Scout Group for children aged between 8 and 10½ years old. This stage of Scouting is designed to build on the skills and experiences gained in the Beaver Colony, offering more challenging and adventurous activities.
What Do Cubs Do?
Cubs meet regularly, typically once a week on Wednesday even, 6:30pm, to engage in a variety of activities that promote personal development, teamwork, and community involvement. Here are some of the typical activities Cubs enjoy:
- Outdoor Adventures: Camping, hiking, and exploring nature.
- Skill Development: Learning practical skills such as cooking, first aid, and knot-tying.
- Creative Projects: Participating in arts and crafts, building projects, and creative writing.
- Games and Sports: Playing team games, learning new sports, and engaging in physical challenges.
- Community Service: Taking part in community projects and helping others.
- Badge Work: Earning badges for completing specific tasks and challenges in areas like athletics, astronomy, and photography.
Leadership and Structure
Each Cub Pack is led by adult volunteers, often referred to by names inspired by characters from Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book,” such as Akela. These leaders are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and fun environment where Cubs can thrive. The Pack is structured to ensure that every Cub has the opportunity to participate fully and enjoy their Scouting experience.
Moving Up
As Cubs approach the age of 10½, they begin to prepare for their transition to the next section of the Scout Group, the Scout Troop. This progression is designed to be smooth and exciting, marking the next step in their Scouting journey.
Joining a Cub Pack is a fantastic opportunity for young people to develop new skills, make lasting friendships, and embark on exciting adventures. It’s a place where they can challenge themselves, learn about the world around them, and start building the foundations for a lifetime of Scouting.
