We are very proud to announce that Jack Newland achieved the first Chief Scout Gold for the troop in nearly 5 years.
Most previous years some scouts would receive this challenging, top award in Scouting. The disruption due to COVID to our young peoples experience in the formative teenage years meant starting all over again in many ways. Energies of the leaders in simply running the troop meant a restricted programme – giving Jack an even greater challenge. The tremendous strength of the patrol leader system meant previous Scouts had great role models in the older scouts, from whom they could learn vital skills. The leaders had to do all of this. Jack is now a senior patrol leader, over our 3 Patrol Leaders and their assistants – all capable young lads growing in experience every week – having tremendous fun along the way.
I have really enjoyed Scouting for the past 7 years. I have made many friends and gained lots of confidence. My favourite memory is building tripods at camp and roasting marshmallows over a fire. I am looking forward to making many more lasting memories
